Mayco Raku Glaze – White Crackle (16 oz)

White Crackle develops a fine crackle pattern over a white gloss surface following a proper Raku Firing. Due to the unpredictable nature of this firing technique, results will vary with every firing.

Mayco Raku glazes are designed to develop beautiful metallic lusters and crackle patterns when fired according to raku firing processes. Raku glazes will not produce the same results in a typical electric firing – must encounter a raku environment. Due to the unpredictable nature of this firing technique, results will vary with every firing.

Chips shown are fired flat on a white clay body. The choice of clay body, the thickness of glaze application, the firing process, and temperature will affect the fired results.

ACMI AP Seal Logo

The AP Seal identifies art materials that are safe and certified in a toxicological evaluation by a medical expert to contain no materials in sufficient quantities to be toxic or injurious to humans, including children, or to cause acute or chronic health problems. Children in grade six and lower, and adults who may not be able to read and understand safety labeling should use only non-toxic materials. The AP Seal ensures products are non-toxic when used as intended for young children, the physically or mentally handicapped, and any persons who cannot read or understand the safety labeling on product packages.

Bubbling or pitting in raku glaze usually occurs when the glaze is heated too quickly. Rapid temperature increase can cause gases to form and escape through the molten glaze, leaving small craters or bubbles that don’t smooth out. To prevent this, slow down the heating rate during firing to allow the glaze to mature evenly and release gases more gradually.
