SIO-2® Cellulain Paper Porcelain Clay, 11 lb

Cellulain is a translucent white porcelain paper clay which stands out for its high plasticity, what makes it exceptional for modelling. It is especially designed for creating impossible shapes with porcelain. The presence of paper fibres inside avoid formation of cracks and deformations problems. Its formula is very stable and provides a secure firing range between 1230 and 1270°C. Suitable for tableware (food-safe), according to ISO 6486. Available in extruded body. Presented in a practical 5 kg cylindrical format with double packaging.

Specifications:

Firing range: 2269-2320°F / Cone 6-8
Biscuit temperature: 1855°F / Cone 06
Water content: 26%
Plasticity (IP Atterberg): 11
Carbonate content (CaCO3): 0%
Drying shrinkage: 4.4%
Firing shrinkage at Cone 7: 11.4%
Porosity at Cone 7: 2.8%

Storage: Protect ceramic clay bodies from direct sunlight, avoiding excessive temperature changes and protect from frost.

Use: Technical details are available with information on the characteristics of each product and its use. It is recommended to test clay body prior to large scale use in order to verify suitability in both the ceramic process (shaping, drying, firing and decoration) and the final application that is expected to be obtained.

Safety: All SIO-2® clay bodies are certified by the Art & Creative Materials Institute (ACMI) and conform to ASTM D-4236 safety guidelines.

ACMI AP Seal Logo

The AP Seal identifies art materials that are safe and certified in a toxicological evaluation by a medical expert to contain no materials in sufficient quantities to be toxic or injurious to humans, including children, or to cause acute or chronic health problems. Children in grade six and lower, and adults who may not be able to read and understand safety labeling should use only non-toxic materials. The AP Seal ensures products are non-toxic when used as intended for young children, the physically or mentally handicapped, and any persons who cannot read or understand the safety labeling on product packages.

Frequently Asked Questions:

The main advantage of Cellulain is the possibility to create extraordinary thin and complicated shapes and objects. Porcelain clays have lower plasticity and mechanical strength than other clays. The paper fibers inside the clay give stability to the object while modeling, even if certain parts are very thin. Another advantage of Cellulain is that it is a food-safe clay.
During the kiln firing process, the paper fibers avoid formation of cracks and deformations and are burned when reaching a certain temperature (this causes a certain smell, but rooms with kilns should be well ventilated). After firing, the remaining porcelain clay will keep its shape, even very thin and translucent areas.
